We bring innovation to life by supporting startups and leading corporations in the pursuit to collaborate and commercialise disraptive ideas.
Sigma Ventures founder, Eitan Bienstock, moved to Australia shortly after September 11, 2001. He arrived in Sydney after spending couple of years in the Silicon Valley working as a strategic investment manager at Intel Capital. Prior to that he was responsible for the development and management of Intel Israel countrywide incubator program. In that role, he supported dozens of Israeli tech startups in their efforts to expand globally. As a result of his efforts, over 100 million USD worth of Israeli tech products were sold globally. He also had a major contribution to the global growth of Nova Measuring Instruments, successfully listed on NASDAQ in April 2000 (NVMI). For his contribution, Eitan received Intel Achievement Awards from Intel President.
Upon his arrival in Sydney and after spending 10 years mentoring, supporting and investing in US and Israeli startups, Eitan established Sigma Ventures as an angel investment group. He drew upon his experience being a member of a successful investment group in the Silicon Valley called Silicom Ventures. After spending three months talking to HNW individuals and meeting startups, Eitan realised that Australian investors had no appetite for risk and that Australian VC's and startups were extremely isolated and inward looking. He was astonished by the lack of willingness to explore and cooperate with other successful ecosystems. As a result, Eitan focused his effort on building a Netflix like model of DVD online distribution service, before moving to New York City.
After couple of years in New York, Eitan returned to Australia in 2006 and founded two companies in the online marketing and parties and events space. Following the successful sale of his last company in 2013, Eitan joined Artesian Capital as a managing director, corporate venturing. Artesian Capital sets up VC funds alongside incubator and accelerators and provides valuable funding to early stage startups across Australia. At that time, Eitan became highly involved in the renewed startup ecosystem in Australia as an angel investor and mentor in number of accelerator programs including Telstra's Muru-D. Eitan also served as a director of Global Growth and ATP Innovations where he actively supported half a dozen startups.
In September 2015 Eitan founded Everything IoT to draw the attention to the potential of IoT as an innovation engine for the future prosperity of Australia post the resources boom period. Today, Eitan is the Managing Director of Sigma Ventures and a Non-Executive Directors of the Spark Festival.
